Revenue Share affiliate programs apply that the affiliate earns a percent share of the profits each time he refers a new client to the store. When the affiliate refers colleagues, associates and clients to the merchant' web site, the system will know that person was referred by the particular affiliate. The person only needs to be referred once, and the affiliate will continue to receive commission payments each time that person returns to the website and makes another purchase (the time depends on the cookie duration that was set for every program).

The size of the commission and the conditions vary from one site to another. Some sites offer a lifetime commission each time a customer makes a purchase.

The commission also depends on the amount of time the site's cookies stay on the customers' computer. The cookies of some sites remain on the computer for a lifetime unless they are deleted by the users. Other sites pay the commission up to three years. Revenue sharing arrangements can bring substantial incomes to the mutual benefit of the affiliate and the merchant.

As an affiliate you should prefer working on a revenue share basis if you detect that there is a high potential of a customer purchasing many products on a given site or spending more than the average. for instance, in casino sites, players can spend ove 10K in a single game and that means alot of money to the affiliate on a rev share basis (as opposed to CPA where the affiliate would get only a one time pre-determined fee for their referal).
In e-commerce sites the revshare model is also popular, because one client can spend $50 while the other would spend $1000- so the affiliate would benefit from the higher paying customer more.

The downside to using this method is when the site sells items for cheap ($1-$10)- then the commissions that the affiliate will get on a revshare basis are relatively small, and remember that the efforts to bring a customer do not change and remain difiicult still..so think carefully which program works well where..
